This was a view of the sunset looking west from
the Bourke cemetery on Friday, July 17, 2009. The
cemetery was a setting in the Henry Lawson story 'The Union
Buries Its Dead.' Lawson made reference to the 'sad
Australian sunset' in this story as well as in a poem called
'Trooper Campbell.'
Ice on Blankets - Fire in Sky

awoke with a layer of ice on our bedding. We stoked
the fire back into life for warmth and for breakfast
preparation and took in the stunning dawn.

There is beguiling beauty to the outback which belies its
harshness. Kilometre after kilometre of red dust carpeted
much of our journey.
Warrego Hotel at Ford's Bridge
Having finished the walk, driving back to Bourke, we stop in
for a drink at the Warrego Hotel to thank the owner Andrea for
her hospitality and encouragement.
